Task 1

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away 

  1. Get out yer handy notebook.
  2. Watch the great sci-fi shorts which you can find in the resources section below.
  3. Note down what you think the key point is that the writer wants to get across in each film.
  4. Is this a universal theme – can everyone relate to the message?
  5. Is this movie representative of its time period? Why do you think this movie was made at that time?
  6. Think about your own movie. Why would someone want to see it? Why does your message relate to what’s happening now?

Task 2

Bleed on paper: Get better at writing

  • Search for dictionary, thesaurus, urban dictionary, grammar, and spelling apps.
  • Download them onto your smartphone.
  • Reconcile to check these apps anytime you find a word you don’t understand.
  • Add these words to your personal lexicon, whether compiled in a notebook, in your smartphone notes, on a Trello board, etc.

Want to be a screenwriter, but can’t type to save your life? Never fear – try these awesome typing games to get your fingers tip-tapping! It’s gamified learning, fun and free.

Extra credit

Throw around some ideas for your movie names – write five potential names down and sleep on them.
