In this cutthroat, competitive world, it’s often not enough to be good at what you do. Be prepared to sell yourself, network like hell, and find the best experience you can. This course from Nickelodeon’s animation branch could be the perfect route for you if you have a passion for all things cartoon.

Known for producing some of the best kid’s TV of the last two decades, Nickelodeon is widely watched & celebrated for eclectic, inventive, and educational programming that keeps children involved & curious.

Even if you’re getting on in years you might remember TV gold like You Can’t Do That on Television, Spongebob Squarepants, and The Fairly OddParents – plus who could forget the critically acclaimed, anime-inspired Avatar series, The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra? This writing program will give you the chance to create unforgettable characters and magical worlds of your own kids everywhere will enjoy.

Many graduates of the 12-month program have gone on to land staff jobs at Nickelodeon, writing for some of their most widely viewed shows, and you won’t need to worry about scrounging living costs during the course, as it’s a paid position from the start!

Throughout the year, the three writers selected will learn invaluable tools of the trade, gain crucial experience, and build a crucial network of executives & collaborators to kickstart their television careers. All you need to do is send in a spec script for an existing show and Nickelodeon will take it from there.

It’s a somewhat daunting task, but from restriction can come a wealth of creativity. Choose from dark comedies like Atlanta or It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, surreal animation like Bojack Horseman or Big Mouth, or just a straight-up sitcom script for a show like Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The characters are all there; it’s up to you to go crazy on the page.

Let Nick pinpoint your sense of humor with a handful of ingenious punchlines, and you could be in for a chance at some genuine TV experience. Head over to their website and follow the steps.

Their call for entries began on the 1st of January, and you’ve got till the end of the month to get submitting. If you don’t quite make it, entrants are always encouraged to come back next year and try again, so there’s always the chance to hone your talents, tweak those punchlines, and give it another shot in 2020.

If you’re chosen, you’ll be notified throughout the year if you make it to the semifinal and final positions, with the program officially starting in October. So get writing and you could be on your way to deciding what future generations of kids are eating their breakfast cereal in front of.
